The Amazon Rising Exhibit at Shedd Aquarium features the habitats and the ways in which life in the Amazon basin adapts to the annual flood cycle.  The exhibit was designed by the in-house Exhibit Design team at Shedd. Magian worked with Shedd staff and was responsible for the creative design and production of the media for the exhibits. We were also responsible for the technical systems design and specification.

The work Magian carried out included:

• interactive touchscreen programs
• video programs
• a touchscreen based species identification system
• an interactive media system for the activity center
• soundscapes throughout the exhibit

The Amazon Rising exhibit uses Magian’s MMaP System for the delivery of the media programs.  The project also uses the Magian DiAC system to control all audio within the exhibits.

Les Gilbert and Gillian Chaplin traveled to the Amazon to collect sounds, photographs and video for the project.

Amazon Rising has won numerous awards including the 2001 American Association of Museums award for Exhibit Excellence and the 2001 American Association of Zoos and Aquariums award for Best Exhibit.
