PK Jakarta Akuarium Indonesia
Magian was initially contracted by the Jakarta Aquarium in Indonesia for a consultancy for the creative and technical design of the multimedia for this new project. Working within a design team Magian undertook all phases of the design, from concept through to construction documentation. Following this Magian was contracted to carry out the implementation of the multimedia and the visitor smartphone APP.
The story-telling and the live collections at the Jakarta Aquarium provide visitors with a strong Indonesian focus in all exhibits – from the iconic Komodo Dragons to the vivid coral reefs of Raja Ampat. Jakarta Aquarium provides visitors with many enticing experiences including the exotic theatrical experience, Pearl of the Sea which plays out on a stage in front of the Ocean Tank as well as underwater with actors inside the tank. This enactment of a much-loved Indonesian legend provides visitors with a unique and utterly memorable experience.
Magian designed and produced all of the interpretive multimedia and bi-lingual content. We also designed and specified the technical infrastructure and multimedia hardware. Programs include an interactive video wall, multitouch walls, a multitouch table and touchscreens. In addition, Magian designed and developed a smartphone app to assists visitors as they explore the Aquarium’s exhibits and experiences. Included is comprehensive identification and general information about species on display, a branded photo feature, ticketing access, site information, and a suite of activities directed at younger visitors. These activities are automatically detected, through the use of beacons, as visitors pass into each exhibition zone and to draw attention to particular content.
All live exhibits are supported by electronic species ID programs rich in text information, imagery and video. Throughout the visitor experience a range of video projections are artfully designed to suggest aquarium tanks where none exist and video projections enliven animal exhibits with footage that suggests views into ‘real’ world scenes. The multimedia programs operate from the Magian MMaPS Content Management System that allows for content to be easily changed and updated.
Magian also designed, produced and implemented multi-channel soundscapes combining natural sounds of the environments with music including traditional Indonesia music. Visitors to the galleries are immersed in vivid aural experiences that breathe life into the exhibitions.
The soundscapes operate from the Magian DiAC System that controls the audio playback and volume levels in relation to the number of visitors in each of the galleries. Magian designed and produced the visitor smartphone APP. This has information about the aquarium, including all of the animals. It also has kid’s games that are triggered by location beacons throughout the galleries.
