Dialogue in the Dark

Melbourne, Australia

Magian was contracted to carry out the design, technical specification and implementation of soundscapes to accompany the Melbourne site for Hamburg based Dialogues in the Dark.  This was a project with a huge chunk of love and commitment from all involved not the least from Magian!

Having experienced a Dialogue in the Dark in Mexico City we had always had a strong affinity with the aims and objectives of this extraordinary social enterprise team headed up by the inspirational Andreas Heinecke and Orna Cohen.

Working with Guide Dogs, Australia’s Victorian project manager Greg Rafferty and the production team, headed by FPPV Architecture, and a range of contractors Magian specified the technical design and infrastructure for the site in Docklands, Melbourne.

Les Gilbert personally designed and produced the rich soundscapes that replicate a number of iconic Melbourne environments within the Melbourne iteration of the Dialogue in the Dark experience.

The implementation was managed and commissioned by Magian’s Mathew Morton working closely with site staff to refine the experience as the site guides worked through their initial bedding down process. Magian is delighted to have been part of this project – in our home town!

Magian was later contracted directly by Dialogues in the Dark head office, to upgrade a bi-lingual touchscreen program to accommodate a hardware upgrade. Magian also converted the same program into a smartphone APP to extend its availability beyond the physical site in Hamburg, Germany.
